ResilienXR is a suite of experiences from Empathetic Media that incorporates augmented, virtual and mixed reality to tackle the growing mental health epidemic in the UK. It was selected for University College London’s Conception X incubator program in 2019 and is part of a graduate thesis research project that combines biofeedback and telemetry to analyse and track user progress and outcomes.

Our approach is preventative rather than curative: aimed at the thousands of teenagers in the British school system who lack the tools to deal with the pressures of secondary school, be it peer pressure, anxiety, or bullying due to their race, gender or other issues.

It does so using a form of exposure therapy, letting users experience potentially challenging scenarios in a virtual environment so that they are better prepared, should the real situation happen. It is being developed both for the Oculus Quest mobile VR headset as well as part of a native AR mobile app as a standalone solution that can be implemented out-of-the-box without the need of any prior technical knowledge.
